A RICH HISTORY AND REPUTATION
McGovern & Co was founded back in 1949 by husband and wife William and Connie McGovern, but things change. And with change comes innovation, and innovation is something we’ve been particularly excited about in recent times.
A FUNDAMENTAL SHIFT
With 70+ years of heritage, experience, and trading expertise under our belts, in 2020 the business was acquired by Alpaca, an investment firm based in Leeds, Yorkshire, in a move designed to help us look to the future and build on our illustrious past.
A BRIGHT FUTURE
We’ve been able to use our heritage, and the incredibly hard-earned reputation that comes with leading the industry for 70+ years, to do things a little bit differently moving forward.
This includes focussing on matters that are important in the modern day. Matters like moving to a more sustainable approach so that the future of McGovern can be positive for our customers and the construction economy in the North East. We're also able to embrace new technologies, finding new products that save on costs and are more carbon-efficient for our customers. All while building towards being more sustainable as a business and providing more and more affordable and sustainable homes for the people of the North East.
EMBRACING THE CHAOS
We’ve learned to embrace the chaos that comes with dipping a toe or two outside of your comfort zone because we understand that a bit of chaos is necessary when you’re looking to innovate and develop. In fact, we'd much rather jump in two-footed rather than simply dipping a toe because that's what it takes to successfully change the way an industry works.
As a business looking forward, we operate outside of the norm and we can’t wait for what the future holds. Our team are looking forward to continuing to develop as a business, expanding as a hub of sustainable, affordable building materials in the North East, and continuing to consistently supply the perfect bricks for our customers.
